Meeples.
Meeples meeples meeples.
(Am I legally allowed to say meeples now?)
Little wooden pieces. Shaped like a starfish...sorry humans. You know the things.
Some games require lots and lots of them - often using cubes instead. (Don't get me started on wooden cubes). So this post is not about...El Grande and its new version for instance. That upgrade was nice. I replicated it in the game Royals - swapping out cubes for meeples (that we could then lie down when assasinated for extra context!)
No - this is where each player has a "character" on the board, and that "character" came in the box as a wooden token. Not a lot of character then.
I have kids. Which means we have lego. Which means we have lego minifigs.
Minifigs are almost infinitely personalisable (try saying that after a glass of wine).
So my group memebers now each have their own minifig. It's their avatar in each boardgame universe that will take them! Easy to remember who you are after a couple of glasses of wine.
If required we can attach them to lego blocks of a certain colour.
Nice.
The gang's all here!
